Sapporo Tenjinyama Art Studio Residency

While staying at Tenjinyama Art Studio for 2 months, Ariana has creating a series of iterative works on paper which take inspiration from the surrounding area and snowy environment of Sapporo. Ariana’s project involves collecting inspiration and imagery from the environment and translating it into abstract watercolour and ink paintings. This project also explores physical methods of disrupting the art-making process to generate new forms and ideas, such as using a handheld scanner to create distorted digital collages. These scans and collages are then used as inspiration for further paintings, leading to a continually evolving series of abstract compositions.
